This past week has been one of the biggest volume weeks so far this season, and on top of that I had the opportunity to make several presentations to the employees of Peak Oilfield Service, which is my main sponsor.
Over the past year I created the presentation to help explain what biathlon is, some of the great things about racing on the World Cup circuit, but also how people can apply the methods we use in sports to improve to their own lives. I was especially pleased to get an invitation to make my first presentation under the extreme conditions of Prudhoe Bay, which is where Peak Oil has one of its operations. Prudhoe Bay is on the North Slope, or the “Slope”, as it is called, and is known for its tough workers. Flying over, I could see it really is an Arctic desert, with no trees whatsoever, but it was actually beautiful weather. From what I saw, they work a lot there, and sleep very little. Right away, at 5:30 a.m. I was talking to the day shift about the process athletes use to reach goals. I did two presenations in Prudhoe Bay, and another in Kenai. However, I did not just talk about training and being committed. After each presentation I put on my training clothes to collect hours. It was refreshing to train at home, and I enjoyed running up the mountains, seeing parts of Alaska I haven’t seen in a while. I would especially like to thank Peak Oilfield Service President Mike O’Connor for inspiring the presentations, along with Megan Clark and Debbie White for helping with the logistics and planning, and Grant Stewart from Stewart film screens for his technical help. <- back |
