Doping Control - 31.08.2009

Doping Controls are a part of an athlete’s life. We must fill out a form telling where we are every day out of the year so the Doping Control officers can make random testing at any time. I never have any worries about the test because I do not take any medications, supplements, sport drinks or anything else, so I generally try to go through the protocol quickly and get back to my day. Unfortunately just prior to this past test I was a little sick and had a terrible headache which kept me up all night, so I drank a lot of water (since dehydration is the main cause for headaches in my experience). The problem with that is drinking too much water can make the specific gravity of the urine sample too low, in other words, the sample cannot be used so another has to be taken. It took over 3 hours, and 5 trips to the bathroom to finally get a usable sample. I really think it was some sort of record, at least it was for me and the Doping Control tester. For anyone doubting the greatness of that achievement, just try to use the bathroom 5 times in an afternoon. I support the Anti-doping system, but having to go through a doping test like that gives me another reason to hate dopers.
