Farmed salmon

One of the biggest worries for us fishermen is the competition from farmed salmon. It is unfortunate human misbehaviour to manipulate nature, but people realized they could raise the salmon in pens in the ocean, and then throughout the year scoop them out of the pen and deliver them to the market. The Norwegians and Chileans were especially active in doing this, flooding the market with farmed salmon bringing down the price. The problem though is that farmed salmon is an unhealthy product which should not be consumed, and if eaten several times a month, farmed salmon causes cancer and other health problems. The reason is that farmed salmon are literally swimming around in their own sewage, since the pens have to protect the salmon from outside predators, not allowing proper filtration of fresh water. As the salmon grow up in the overcrowded pens being fed antibiotics, and dipped in chemicals to wash away the sea lice, they get fat, because they cannot move around much. The fat is where pollutants are stored, and one of the pollutants which has been found causes cancer in people. So as people eat farmed salmon, they are giving themselves cancer. This is proven, however, people do not know about it because the farmed salmon industry has lobbyists around the world who discourage health warnings for consumers. As a side note, the color of farmed salmon meat is actually grey, since they do not eat the crustaceans in the ocean which wild salmon eat, and therefore farmed salmon are fed food coloring to make their meat look red.
